The product should not lead the conversation

A vehicle, a piece of equipment or a commercial property may be the reason finance is needed, but it is not the whole story. The useful starting point is what the borrower is trying to achieve, how the business works and what needs to happen next.

Understand first

Income structure, timing, security, the asset and the longer-term plan can all affect where a deal belongs. Taking time to understand those details early can prevent wasted applications and unclear recommendations.

Do the homework

The next step is to compare lender policy, pricing, structure and appetite. Access to lenders matters, but knowing which lenders are genuinely relevant matters more.

Place with purpose

A recommendation should have a reason behind it. The borrower should understand the trade-offs, the expected costs and why the proposed lender fits the situation.

That is what FinTank means by finance, thought through.
